My design career began working for a startup, Experience, the first business from the venture incubator, Kenzie Lane Innovation. My work began as the lone customer support rep for Experience. This interpersonal experience working with frustrated users and solving problems provided me with a design foundation built on a deep appreciation for listening to people and understanding their problems.

As I transitioned into being a full time designer, working at a small start up also gave me the opportunity to work very closely with our product and engineering teams. As a team we delivered award-winning (Sports Business Journal Best in Sports Technology and Best in Mobible Fan Experience) eCommerce and ticketing technologies. This intimate exposure helped me develop a keen sense of how to make design thrive as a function within the broader organization. For example, I learned how to match my process to the pace of the organization on a given project. Need a fully functioning prototype to pitch a new product tomorrow? I can do that. Need to redesign the entire product and ship it in 6 months? I can do that, too.

When doing the latter, I follow a design process that follows the user above all else, separates architecture from visual design, and prioritizes defining problems clearly before considering the solutions. This delivers intuitive products that scale.

It can be boiled down into 4 major parts –
